Surprise Opening Of The Arab Cup.. Syria And Palestine Achieve An Important Victory Over Tunisia And Qatar

The beginning of the 2025 Arab Cup witnessed two exciting surprises after the Syrian team won over Tunisia with a score of 1-0, and a repeat of the surprise with the victory of the Palestinian team over the Qatari team hosting the tournament with the same score, 1-0, in one of the biggest surprises of the tournament.

The victory of the Syrian and Palestinian teams over the Tunisian and Qatari teams came in the first group competitions and the first day of the tournament, which began today, Monday, in its eleventh edition, in the Qatari capital, Doha.

Syria’s victory

The Syrian national team cut the ribbon on opening the tournament with a valuable victory over its Tunisian counterpart with an unanswered goal, at the “Ahmed Bin Ali” Stadium in Al Rayyan, Doha, as part of the first group competitions, which includes 4 teams: “Qatar, Tunisia, Syria and Palestine.”

The first half of the match ended in a goalless draw, as the Tunisian national team players wasted many opportunities, especially Mohamed Ali Ben Ramadan, Ismail Al-Gharbi, and Firas Shawat, after imposing their advantage over the course of the match at the beginning.

In the second half, the Syrian team was able to surprise the “Eagles of Carthage” when its striker and captain, Omar Khribin, scored the only goal of the match in the 48th minute.

The Tunisian team tried hard to come back in the result of the match, as coach Sami Trabelsi made several changes to activate the offensive front by bringing in Saif Al-Din Al-Jaziri and Shehab Al-Jabali, but the situation remained as it was after the Syrian team kept a clean sheet.

Palestine’s victory

Within the same first group, the Palestine national team defeated its Qatari counterpart, the host of the tournament, 1-0, today, Monday, in the second match of the first round competitions hosted by the “Al-Bayt Stadium” stadium in the capital, Doha.

The two teams’ attempts were unsuccessful throughout the 90 minutes of the match, but the Palestinian team succeeded in scoring the winning goal in the fifth and final minute of stoppage time in the second half, with an own goal scored by Sultan Al-Breik, defender of the Qatari team, by mistake in his team’s goal.

Big surprise

With this victory, the Syrian and Palestinian teams gained the first 3 points to temporarily lead the first group, while Tunisia and Qatar are at the bottom of the group without a score.

Experts said that these results indicate that there is no guaranteed match in the tournament this year, noting that the continued good performance of the Syrian and Palestinian teams may create a major surprise for the fans.

They added that the Palestinian national team has distinguished elements who are professionals in foreign countries, which gives it the ability to compete strongly if it stays away from being overly conservative in the upcoming matches.

They pointed out that these early victories raise the level of competition among all participating teams, and make watching the tournament exciting and exciting for the fans.

The State of Qatar will host the 11th edition of the Arab Cup Football Championship for the third time in its history during the period from 1 to 18 December, with the participation of 16 teams divided into 4 groups.
