For Fun Conversations!.. OpenAI Launches A “weird” Character In The ChatGPT Application

The “eccentric” option comes as one of three new personality types added to the platform, along with the “professional” and “outspoken” personalities, joining previous options such as “sarcastic” and “talkative” that were launched earlier this year.

The company explained in an official publication that “we designed these options” with the aim of enabling users to choose the style that they feel is closest to their personalities or needs while interacting with artificial intelligence.

In a remarkable development, the company revealed its experience with advanced customization features that allow users to precisely adjust the characteristics of ChatGPT, as they can now control the degree of brevity of responses, the level of warmth in style, and the ease of reading results, in addition to determining the frequency of use of emojis in dialogues.

These updates do not come out of nowhere, but rather represent a response to the criticism that the company faced after the previous update, which made the artificial intelligence “excessively flattering.” OpenAI previously admitted that the GPT‑4o model produced “overly supportive but insincere” responses, and considered that this pattern “may be annoying and disturbing to users,” which prompted it to roll back that update and work to improve performance.

On the technical level, the update included the introduction of two new technical models, one of which is the “immediate model” designed to provide “warmer and smarter” responses, and the other is the “thinking model” that enhances performance in simple tasks and shows greater persistence in dealing with complex tasks.

Commenting on these developments, Fidji Simo, head of the applications department at OpenAI, explained that this step represents a shift in the company’s vision, noting that “some users want direct, neutral responses, while others prefer a sympathetic, conversation-like approach.”

She added that the new update aims to go beyond the idea of “one style fits all,” expressing her hope that “ChatGPT will feel as if it belongs to the user, and work in the way that suits him best.”
