“Very Soon.” A Short Statement From Zidane Ignites Speculation About His Coaching Future

Zidane has not supervised any team since he left Real Madrid in 2021, after two successful careers with the Royal Club between 2016 and 2018, and then between 2019 and 2021, during which he was able to achieve 11 titles, most notably the consecutive Champions League hat-trick between 2016 and 2018, and two Spanish League titles in 2017 and 2020.
During his participation in a charity event in the French city of Toulon, Zidane was asked about the date of his return to training, and he answered briefly: “Very soon.”
He explained that he was unable to participate in the friendly match that accompanied the event due to a minor thigh injury, adding: “I have become older, and I suffer from injuries from time to time. Now I will focus on training for some time.”
Zidane is considered one of the most prominent candidates to take over as coach of the France national team after the 2026 World Cup, succeeding Didier Deschamps, who has led the team since 2012.
Zidane had expressed on than one occasion his desire to lead the “Roosters”, confirming in previous statements to the newspapers “Gazzetta dello Sport” and “L’Equipe” that he feels his ability to achieve achievements with the national team.
Earlier, French football legend Thierry Henry hinted that the identity of the next coach for France is known to everyone, saying: “We all know who the next coach will be, and I wish him success.”
Zidane and Henry share a long friendship, as they were among the most prominent elements of the golden generation that led France to win the 1998 World Cup and the 2000 European Nations Cup, in addition to reaching the 2006 World Cup final.
