FBI Investigating Death Of Passenger Aboard Carnival Cruise Ship

The death of a passenger on a Carnival cruise ship is being investigated by the FBI.

The passenger was traveling on a Carnival Horizon ship that returned to Port Miami in Florida on Saturday, Nov. 8, according to a statement from Carnival Cruise Line.

“Since this is an ongoing matter under the jurisdiction of law enforcement, it is up to the FBI’s Miami public affairs office to provide further details,” the cruise line said.

“Our focus is on supporting the family of our guest,” Carnival added.

FBI Miami Special Agent Willie Creech confirmed to PEOPLE that the federal agency responded to the scene.

“Because this is an ongoing matter, no further information is available at this time,” Creech said.

No further details were made available about the passenger or the incident.

According to the Carnival Cruise Line websitethe Carnival Horizon ship can carry 3,960 guests and 1,450 crew members. The ship sails to the Caribbean from Miami and Galveston, Texas.

The latest surrounding Carnival comes after it was reported that two passengers are suing the cruise line company, claiming they woke up covered in bed bug bites during a sail earlier this year.

A representative for Carnival told PEOPLE they do not comment on pending litigation, but pointed to the company’s “extensive and thorough guest room sanitation process, including special procedures to address the rare instances when a guest might raise a concern.”
