The $1.50 Aldi Item Mysteriously Missing From Shelves: ‘So Frustrating’

Observant Aldi Australia shoppers have noticed a budget pantry staple has suddenly vanished from shelves – with no warning and no explanation

Ocean Rise Canned Red Salmon, exclusively sold at the bargain supermarket chain for $1.50 per can, is currently nowhere to be seen in stores.

On the store’s website, the product is now listed as ‘currently not available’.

The mystery of the vanishing salmon recently sparked a flurry of discussion online.

‘Where has the canned red salmon gone?’ one confused shopper asked in a forum. ‘The plain salmon with nothing added except salt? All my local stores no longer have it.’

Daily Mail has contacted Aldi Australia for comment.

The query quickly struck a chord with other shoppers, who agreed that they had ‘been wondering the same’.

One person revealed a clue that suggests the product’s disappearance may be permanent.

‘My store has also rearranged the shelf to remove the space, so it’s not coming back any time soon,’ they predicted.

‘The only canned salmon left is the flavoured stuff and I’m just not interested.’

Indeed, Aldi Australia’s online store still lists various flavoured Ocean Rise Salmon varieties, all sold at $1.49 per 95g can.

The current range includes Sweet Chilli Salmon, Smoked Flavoured Salmon, Tomato Salsa Salmon, Aioli and Cracked Pepper Salmon, Soy Sauce Ginger & Garlic Salmon and Teriyaki & Garlic Salmon.

The original poster on Reddit, hoping it was only a local stock issue, was disappointed to discover the missing red salmon is a widespread problem.

‘So frustrating,’ they wrote in the post comments. ‘A good friend of mine just got me onto it and it’s so good for you! Great price too.’

Another shopper said they also had noticed the absence and had even spotted other Aldi customers with ‘disappointed’ expressions while ‘looking around the tinned fish section’.

‘It’s probably been a month-ish since I’ve seen it,’ they added.

Aldi’s Ocean Rise Premium Red Salmon is described as ‘a tasty source of protein and Omega 3’.

It contains only two ingredients: 99 per cent red salmon and salt, and has ‘no artificial colours, flavours or preservatives’.

The online product listing recommends enjoying it ‘with cream cheese on bagels for a delicious breakfast’.

While canned salmon enthusiasts lament this presumed product discontinuation, Aldi shoppers with a sweet tooth are celebrating the return of another cult favourite: Choceur Delightful Chocolate Waves.

The chocolate range, which is part of Aldi’s Christmas offering, has just reappeared for 2025. They’re available in four flavours: milk chocolate, caramel, hazelnut and mint, at $4.99 for a 125g pack.

These thin and crisp milk chocolate slices are sprinkled with a light crunchy texture, making them the perfect little indulgence.

Chocolate fans affectionately refer to them as the ‘Pringles chocolate’ – thanks to their thin, curved shape resembling the famous baked crisps.

An Aldi Australia spokesperson confirmed to Daily Mail: ‘We’re always excited to bring back customer favourites in our seasonal ranges and the Choceur Delightful Chocolate Waves are an absolute must-have this Christmas.’

The product was last in-store in November 2024, with an Aldi Australia Facebook post at the time confirming the ‘crunchy’ and ‘sweet’ delight was available for a limited time only ‘until Christmas’.

A Victorian woman named Donatella was among the first to spot the return of Choceur Waves in-store when she dropped into her local Aldi store on October 27.

‘ALERT! I actually found the discontinued Aldi chocolate Pringles,’ Donatella captioned a TikTok post shared on her @dj.wlsjourney account.

Donatella added that she was genuinely stunned to see that ‘they’re back’, adding a happy-crying emoji alongside her post.
